One might think that comparing the two platforms makes no sense because they serve a different purpose, don’t they? As social media marketers, it is important to be able to understand what makes the selling point of each social media platform, in order to know the best way to incorporate ads and have maximum effectiveness.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is well known for its business based content and users. Everything that this platform has to offer is more “formal” and straight to the point, which gives LinkedIn an advantage that no other social media platform has by making it easier for you to target messages to otherwise hard-to-reach business-oriented audiences. We can agree that LinkedIn is the most dominant professional social platform out there. While other social media platforms gather data from users based on their online activity, LinkedIn can also get insights about its users from their skill set, degree, industry, company size and name, job title, and job function. LinkedIn also creates a professional environment, which leads to making users more receptive to your marketing message.

TikTok

Now, what about TikTok? This platform is a place to target the younger generations. However, even if currently, you are not planning to target this audience, it important to understand how to best use this platform in the future. But who knows what will happen to TikTok next year? With TikTok ads, you can schedule your camping and target a specific audience. You can also set a budget and create a time schedule for your campaign. However, ads on TikTok can be very pricy, starting from 50 dollars a day. What makes TikTok really unique is that it allows a variety of advertising options such as:

  • Brand takeover: Image, GIF, or video ads that allow one brand to dominate a specific topic for the day

  • In-feed native video: Vertical 9-15 second video ads that show up on the “For You” page

  • Hashtag challenge: Create sponsored hashtags to encourage user-generated content, engage users, and attract influencers

  • Branded lenses: Create 2D or 3D lenses that users can try out for themselves

But will a 10 seconds video be enough? TikTok ensures that your ads will not be overlooked. Due to the shortness of the video, fewer people will skip. Branded lenses and challenges engage the audience and if properly made, they can be extremely effective.

The two platforms are very different from one another, but both are great to advertise your business, and should not be overlooked. Starting to advertise on TikTok is a wave worth catching due to its huge popularity, while Linkedin will always be a safe space for anything related to business. What are your thoughts on the two platforms? Let us know in the comments below.

Cheers!
